What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can be a very powerful way of helping you get more of what you do want and help stop you doing you don’t want*. It’s a relaxing and safe process that most clients find quite enjoyable. It involves being placed into a light, medium or deep trance that allows us to work with your unconscious mind to create and suggest new outcomes for you e.g. overcoming a fear / being more confident etc.
Many scientists consider the unconscious mind as the most amazing computer known to man. It’s the part of your mind where automatic habits behaviours are located. And most of what we do is automatic.
Your unconscious has many roles such as storing memories, providing you with motivation & guiding your beliefs. You use your unconscious mind for everyday skills such as driving & talking. Habits (good and bad) come from the unconscious mind e.g. people who crack their knuckles don’t think about it, they just do it. The part that is doing it is the unconscious.
Most of us find consciously changing our behaviour, very hard. You cannot consciously control your unconscious mind. Think of someone wanting not to be anxious before a presentation. Often, they will focus on ‘not being anxious’, which makes them think of being anxious and the whole cycle of anxiety begins. Clinical Hypnotherapy can help you stop that by working directly with you consciously and most importantly, unconsciously*.
Being in a trance is very relaxing and feels like the stage between being awake and falling asleep*. However it is different from sleep and you remain in control at all times.
As well as Clinical Hypnotherapy, I use a number of other tools and techniques such as NLP, TFT, EFT, TimeLine Therapy & EMDR when working with clients.
* Please be aware that whilst I give you 100% effort and skill, I can’t guarantee a success.
Why use Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can help you across a number of different areas in your life. It can be rapid and is very safe.
Hypnotherapy can be especially helpful for habit breaking, stress-related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. As an example, clinical hypnotherapy is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
What to expect?
During the initial session, I will first ask you some questions in order to help me understand you and your problem better. This will help me adapt the session to your specific needs.
As well as facilitating change with you during the session, I may also give you tools to take away and practice on your own. This will allow you to take further control of your emotional and physical well-being.
But most of all, expect to take an active part of the changes you will experience.
